Julie Steines is the award-winning author of the children’s series Norbert, inspired by her three-pound therapy dog. Mediaplanet sat down with her to discuss the amazing work Norbert does as a philanthropist!

Mediaplanet: What would you say has been Norbert’s greatest accomplishment thus far?

Julie Steines: Norbert’s most famous accomplishment is his delightful ability to make people smile. He does this face-to-face as well as through social media where his audience has grown to more than 1.8 million people worldwide.

Why should Canadians consider adopting a pet?

I believe pet adoption is important because giving a needy animal a warm and loving home enriches not only the life of the pet, but also the human lives touched by the animal’s presence. I am a perfect example of this. Adopting Norbert has changed my life in ways I could have never imagined.

It has truly been a remarkable and rewarding adventure. He inspired me to form Polly Parker Press with my mother and create publications to share the message that you don’t have to be big to make a big difference in the world. It was also through a television appearance with Norbert that I met my future husband. Becoming a pet owner was life-changing.

Norbert giving a high-five!
