The Ontario Sledge Hockey Association (OSHA) continues to play a vital role in shaping the landscape of adaptive sport across the province. As the recognized governing body for sledge hockey in Ontario, OSHA represents a growing and vibrant community of more than 400 athletes across over 20 clubs. With a strong foundation as a registered non-profit organization, and affiliations with the Ontario Hockey Federation and Hockey Canada, OSHA is committed to fostering opportunity, inclusion, and excellence in sport.
At the heart of OSHA’s work is its structured and accessible league system. The organization operates three primary divisions: Junior Sledge Development, Open & Intermediate. These leagues are designed to meet athletes where they are in their journey—whether they are stepping onto the ice for the first time or competing at a high-performance level. By offering both developmental and competitive pathways, OSHA ensures that players of all ages and abilities have the chance to grow, compete, and thrive in the sport.
Beyond league play, OSHA is deeply invested in athlete development at the highest levels. The association works closely with Sledge Team Ontario through the Quest for Gold program, a government-supported initiative that helps identify and train elite athletes. This collaboration provides a clear pathway for talented players to advance within the sport, representing Ontario and potentially Canada on the international stage.
OSHA also plays a central role in organizing and supporting major parasport events across the province. It coordinates sledge hockey participation in both the Ontario Parasport Winter Games and the Ontario Winter Games, helping to elevate the profile of adaptive sport while creating meaningful competitive experiences for athletes. These events not only showcase athletic talent but also promote awareness and inclusivity within the broader sporting community.
Each year, OSHA hosts two flagship tournaments that have become highlights on the international sledge hockey calendar. Held in Mississauga in November and London in January, these events attract teams from across Canada as well as the United States, Europe, and Asia. The tournaments provide a platform for high-level competition and cultural exchange, reinforcing Ontario’s reputation as a hub for the sport.
Education and development extend beyond athletes to coaches and officials as well. OSHA regularly conducts training and certification clinics for coaches, on-ice referees, and volunteers. These initiatives ensure that the sport continues to grow with strong leadership, consistent standards, and a commitment to safety and excellence. Additionally, OSHA contributes its expertise at the national level, participating in committees and supporting the development of sledge hockey programs across Canada.
