Halifax Tides player Tiff Cameron reflects on the impact of the NSL and the future of women’s sport.
The launch of the NSL marks a major moment for women’s sport in Canada. What does this league represent to you personally?
As a Canadian, it has been a dream to be able to play professionally on home soil. It represents an opportunity for the younger generation, exposure for those who have been overlooked and a space for experienced players to leave their mark and impact on and off the field.
What role do leagues like the NSL have in changing who gets to play, watch, and belong in sport?
The NSL has created a platform for Canadians to develop and showcase their skills. The visibility and emphasis on storytelling have created more connections to communities. Now the younger generation can watch players from their city play professionally and aspire to fill their shoes one day.
Looking ahead, what gives you the most hope for the future of women’s sport in Canada?
The fan support has been incredible since the league launched in 2025. The infrastructure and professionalism of the league have been attracting domestic and international talent. With the league growing at the rate it has, I think the future is very bright.
