Murphy’s Camping on the Ocean makes it possible to experience The Wild Islands in an eco-friendly and elevated way.
Just over an hour’s drive from downtown Halifax is one of the last remaining intact and ecologically rich archipelagos of its size in North America. Often referred to as, “The most valuable islands you’ve never heard of,” The 100 Wild Islands are an untouched environmental wonder.
In the heart of this magical setting sits Murphy’s Camping on the Ocean – one of the longest running campgrounds in Nova Scotia. For over 60 years, the natural oasis has been providing guests with the chance to experience rugged outdoor landscapes in a sustainable way.
Now in their third generation of ownership, the family run business is a proud member of Leave No Trace Canada and 1% for the Planet. They work hard to protect their beloved environment so that the islands’ unrivaled beauty can be enjoyed long into the future.
Breathtaking views, endless activities

Murphy’s touts 51 reservable sites, including a wide variety of unique serviced RV sites and, unserviced tent sites. With a focus on providing a communal atmosphere with their free morning coffer and evening campfires, it’s truly a place where memories are made.
Plus, they offer a variety of unforgettable ocean experiences and excursions. Guests can rent leisure kayaks to explore surrounding coastal waters or launch their own boat from the marina. Guided boat tours aboard the Sea Warrior provide scenic views, fishing, and swimming opportunities. Take the “100 Islands in 100 Minutes” private charter tour, arrange an island drop off for a beach day trip, or embark on an overnight camping adventure. With just under 100 islands within a five-kilometre radius of their wharf, the area makes for the most idyllic boating expeditions.
If that’s not enough, the campsite is rolling out a new and exciting off-grid escape – three Hypedome Eco-Domes.
Float above the forest floor

Perched on a 35-foot cliff with panoramic views, the new eco-domes offer a unique refuge into nature without sacrificing comfort. Each 15-foot diameter dome features a partially transparent shell, offering a 180-degree ocean view. With cozy, insulated interiors and wood stoves, guests can stay warm through the cooler months and fresh in the summer – making the accommodations three-season ready.
The domes are located near a developing coastal hiking trail opening in late 2025 which will feature interpretive signage about the area’s natural history. They are entirely off grid, yet thoughtfully equipped with battery power and lights, an induction burner, mini fridge, and cold-water sink. Perfect for couples, the domes are peaceful and intimate spaces where guests can fall asleep under the stars and wake to sweeping coastal vistas.
With minimal environmental impact, these sustainably built domes echo Murphy’s mission to blend human experiences seamlessly into the landscape, making for an exceptional getaway.
